Comprehensive Implementation Companion

After researching and writing my thesis, the next step had been to write a book with which teenagers could identify. It’s not only difficult to be a teenager, but it’s really difficult to write for them, because they change and transform so much, and so quickly.

Which specific age do you pitch at? The innocent 13 year old, the know-it-all defiant 16 year old, or the maturing 19 year old? The information is pertinent to all of them.

One thought made me sit up straight: “Teacher’s have it easy, their pupils are a uniform age”. It was one of those embarrassing, instantly erased thoughts, but something lingered.

This journey had begun in a school…

And so, the lengthy process of researching pedagogics, updated teaching methodology and other aspects began in earnest, and the final product of that is now available for schools to use.

This Implementation Companion is not dogmatic or prescriptive but suggestive as far as implementation goes. In that sense it is a guide, and feedback will be welcomed and incorporated for future users.

However, anyone involved in this process MUST adhere to the safety protocols.

Great care must also be taken where children of differing ages are involved.

Implementation of this programme requires that all facilitators know the book ‘The Shadow of the Teen’ intimately, the way an English teacher knows Shakespeare. Kids are smart and always look for weaknesses. If they find one, your credibility is shattered.

The manual contains suggested lesson plans, toolkits, master copies of forms and parent notes.
